FAQs

We exclusively work with small coffee farms that adhere to sustainable practices, with many meeting the criteria for organic certification. However, the financial burden associated with obtaining an organic certification is often a challenge for these farms. The requirements and significant investment required by both individual farmers and cooperatives can be too much, especially considering the volume of coffee they produce.

It is important to recognize that great coffee comes from both organic and non-organic farms. While our partners may lack organic certification, their coffee is cultivated sustainably, sourced ethically, and free from harmful chemicals.

There are no carbs nor sugar in our coffee! When you see the flavors like caramel, brown sugar, or cherries listed - those are simply tasting notes that are used across the board in the coffee world by those who cup coffee. There isn't literal sugar or caramel added to our coffees. A standard cup of black coffee is 5 calories a cup, which is where ours runs too.

We use Sugarcane Decaffeination for the decaf process! This method can also be referred to as the solvent method, or ethyl acetate method. In short, this method uses molasses which is distilled from sugarcane as a solvent. They ferment the molasses to create alcohol.

First the beans are soaked in water and steamed to swell the beans, basically opening up the bean's pores to the process. They then go through an ethyl acetate wash where the solvent grabs onto the caffeine. It is then soaked and steamed again to remove the caffeine and solvent, leaving the regular bean behind! It's an extremely safe and delicious way to make decaf, and it's most common in Colombia where they have sugarcane in abundance. The opening of the bean's pores explain why they look oily, because the oils can more easily move toward the bean's surface even at lighter roast levels!

Currently we only ship to The U.S. and Canada.

We partner with nonprofits that are effective, efficient, and sustainable in the work that they do to fight injustices in the communities around the world. It is important to us that we partner with organizations that we know and trust. Building a strong relationship with each organization we partner with is the first step as we become a part of their mission.

Our goal is to support the operational side of the nonprofits we partner with, so that 100% of their individual donor dollars can go directly to their own mission. We do this by partnering with nonprofits who are vetted and analyzed by our team to make sure their organization is using the funds in the most responsible and sustainable ways.

In order to stay environmentally friendly and keep our coffee as fresh as possible, we will not be selling K-Cups. We recommend that you put our coffee in a refillable K-Cup.
